It keeps quitting back to workbench

I have 64 mb fast ram
Re: It keeps quitting back to workbench
I am going to do that..but I want to do it from the server network itself and not from the available package given. I have a feeling that the game get corrupted if it moves from one machine to another. I think the game gets married to the hardware it got installed into, which explains why the standalone package given to me after purchase didn't work, or moving the hard drive after installing it from the server from WinUAE to Amiga 500 broke it again. I think the concept of all you need is the install.lha to run the game correctly still holds true because if you take the installed game and move it around, especially to a different system, there is a risk it breaks.Aged Code wrote: Mon Nov 07, 2022 5:04 pm Chip RAM is definitely enough. How about Fast RAM?
If you get at least 8 MB Free (or even slightly less, let's say 7+) then I suspect your exe is corrupted. Please unpack the game again from the lha archive and try again.
Curious though, you have me thinking for a moment. In one of your sticky post you said something about AMOS.library need to be certain version. Is this AMOS.library needed to be installed into the sys:libs folder or it have to be in the same folder as the game? I am just thinking, maybe my theory of game married to hardware is indeed HOT AIR and the whole mess we have is that we didn't have amos.library at all in the libs folder. If that is the case, where do we get this amos.library version for the game to run correctly?
Re: It keeps quitting back to workbench
No, the game is not "married" to any specific hardware, it's almost impossible. But there are cases where wrongly set MaxTransfer for Compact Flash/SD card corrupts files.
The most common cause ofaqb failed returncode 20 is incomplete download from the server. But you can always rename the previous aqb.old to aqb .
So for the sake of the experiment, you could test the game from the archive and then, if it works, try again the network installer
As for theamos.library , you don't have to worry about that, because the latest package takes care of that. There is a small program in the startup script that checks if there is already this library on the user's system, and if there is, it checks its version. If it is different from the one used by the game, it renames it to amos.library.old and uses the one supplied with the game (AQUABYSS/data/Libs directory).

Re: It keeps quitting back to workbench
I want to play the game online only. I want to install it from server this week i will have money and buy plipbox and ibrowse 2.5.7 as soon as I receive my money. When I receive my plipbox I will try the game again
Re: It keeps quitting back to workbench
You'll have to be patient with Plipbox, but once you've downloaded the game it works pretty much the same as for any other online player. It will, however, matter a little bit more for the AQUABYSS Game Assistant™
(more information about it in the near future).
Looking forward to your download

Re: It keeps quitting back to workbench
Hello,
I have the same problem as it is described in the title of this thread. I downloaded the latest pack of Aquabyss (0.92.97) that I can get from your server without a network installation on my Amiga1200 (I don't have one). The download was interrupted once, than I resumed it with my FTP-Client Cyberduck on my Mac.
I did what you mentioned elsewhere in the forum: I tried to start the game in a AmigaDOS-Shell right after booting without startup-sequence. But everytime I try in the end I always get this:
1> execute aquabyss
Submerging into the AQUABYSS' World...
agb failed returncode 20
I had the file aqb.old in the folder "aquabyss". First I tried it just with the files that I got (i.a. "aqb"), then I deleted "aqb" and renamed "aqb.old" to "aqb". Sadly the result remains in both cases the same.
Everything that happens is a black screen for a few seconds, than the choice between two languages, than another few seconds black screen and than a return to Shell or workbench.
I use a A1200 with 2MB Chip and 128MB Fast RAM, Indivision Mk3, ACA1234 and OS 3.2.1. Any idea?

Re: It keeps quitting back to workbench
Have you tried the installation from server and see if that makes any difference?

@Thomas9
One of the users had exactly the same symptoms as you and he too has an ACA card. What he did is, let me quote him:
Let us know your results.
One more thing. To make sure your download is successful and the archive is intact, you may install the game under an emulator (WinUAE/FS-UAE). If it works there then you must look for a cause on the real hardware. On this forum, there are already some hints but we will provide more as we learn something new. Keep trying, don't give up

If you're not a German speaker then please translate this text to see his solution.Juhuu, Jubel, es läuft. Endlich kein "Back in the Surface" Meldung mehr.

Re: It keeps quitting back to workbench
I haven't touched the game in a month and wanted to play it again on my A1200/V1200. So I booted up my naked Workbench 3.2 installation on which it worked before, but now after starting the game, it will quit after selecting the language: "Back on surface again"
I have installed the latest version from the FTP from Nov, 12th. There are no commodities/programs running in WBStartup or any patches. Just a plain OS3.2 with 1.934.000kB of free ChipRAM
