WinUAE Configuration

Post by Aged Code »

We've received a few inquiries regarding WinUAE configuration. While some options can be adjusted to personal preference, we strongly recommend keeping the Chip RAM at 2 MB (setting more than 2 MB will crash the game!) and Fast RAM at a minimum of 16 MB. ROM: Kickstart 3.1 (40.068) A1200.

Note: On some systems, you might encounter sound or music issues. If this occurs, try one of these:
  1. Change the sound output device (WASPI / WASPI EX / DSOUND).
  2. Tur JIT on or off and/or the CPU Fastest possible or Approximate A500/A1200 or cycle-exact.
You may also download a dedicated configuration, but it might require a few adjustments on your end (such as updating paths and the ROM file, which, unfortunately, cannot be shared due to copyright restrictions).
The ROM file name in the shared configuration is kickstart_3.1 (40.068) A1200.rom. Of course, you can rename it (or use your current ROM), but this will require a manual change in the configuration:

Captains, feel free to share your experiences with WinUAE that could help others and weren't covered in the post above.

Great one! Thanks a lot!
Is there any parameter in the WinUAE configuration that can be altered to effectively slow down the speed of navigation at sea?
I feel like navigating at hyper speed at sea after you optimized the code (quite a long time ago).
This way it's very hard to execute pinpointed courses or planned shortcuts as I overshoot the targeted course regularly.

Yes. Enable both Cycle-exact in Chipset. This should bring the hyper speed to normal.

I already have this configuration since this is already the one you posted in your screenshots above.
So it seems that your definition of "hyper speed" is mine of "hyper hyper speed" and yours of "normal speed" matches mine of "hyper speed".
Well, I suppose I could emulate a very slow and basic Amiga - but would have to endure long loading times for all aspects of the game.
An auto pilot is unpreferable, too, since it blocks a submarine slot and consumes more fuel.

But there might be a workaround for this matter:
I mainly use my keyboard for navigation and could switch to mouse navigation only for very nearby coordinates I definitely don't want to overshoot.

Yeah, the same WinUAE settings can act differently on different machines, and with players using various versions it gets even less predictable 😅. Personally, I stick with 3.5.0 – the last one that emulates the main menu button animation correctly. Small detail, but as a dev I’d rather not chase “bugs” that only exist in emulation.
